Welcome to 1000 Miles Walk in 2017
1000 Miles Walk is back for 2017
Following 2 total hip replacements in January and September 2016 which kept last years walking mileage down to 600 miles, with big thanks to the Duchy hospital, Harrogate for fixing me, I am feeling fitter and taking up the challenge again for 2017.
Unfortunately due to increased workloads I won't be posting every walk to the blog this time instead I am going to use my Facebook page as the blog, so the walks page is just my FB and Twitter feeds this time around
How it all started? A New Year's resolution, Fitness Challenge, Fundraising Event, All 3 really! In December 2014, I challenged myself to walk 1,000 miles in 2015, which worked out at roughly 20 miles every week, this might not sound like a massive target but it was the "EVERY week" which was going to be hard. As it turned out I completed the challenge with 2 months to spare and lost 5 stone in weight during the challenge. Raising £678.75 (inc Gift Aid) for Parkinson's UK
During the challenge I became aware of Country Walking Magazine's similar challenge #walk1000miles & #walk500miles links to the FB group and the sign up page on their site are below.
I also unfortunately became aware of an increasing pain and stiffness in my hips and was diagnosed about half of the way through with severe arthritis of both hips
This made the challenge difficult to repeat in 2016. Though I should still hit 600 miles despite 2 seperate Total Hip Replacements.
But I have decided now I'm getting fit again to take up the challenge again in 2017 so have signed up at http://livefortheoutdoors.com/walk1000miles/ and the FB group is at https://www.facebook.com/groups/walk1000miles/
